why it started

Creating opportunities for rising college juniors and seniors in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stakeholders from GKFF, the City of Tulsa, and TYPROS became aware of the unique situation that 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic was creating for rising college juniors and seniors, who count on this summer as a critical stepping stone to post-college employment. The stakeholders, along with help from Atento Capital and The Mine in facilitating the program, expedited their existing plan for SummerTulsa programming, in order to create opportunities in 2020 for these students in Tulsa. Following success in summer 2020, SummerTulsa is excited to become an annual program!

The goal of SummerTulsa is simple: help college students confront real-world, city-wide challenges, develop professional skills, connect deeply with Tulsa, and create relationships that will draw them back to this city in the future.
